Competition participants' remarks

16.07.2021

As part of the campaign Culture of Respect t-shirts and pins connected with this action were prepared. By sharing them in the Foreign Students Support Center – Welcome Point, we organised a competition, in which ever MUG’s society member can describe, which of values promoted during the campaign considers as the most important and send a photo or video connected with that.

Szymon Kolasiński

- Hi! The value that I have chosen is trust. In my opinion trust is one of the most important elements of teamwork – says Szymon Kolasiński, 2nd year student of medical rescue service. – In our case trust to each other results in bringing help to our patients more effectively. For me as a student of medical rescue service the trust is an integral part, which we could rely on during helping patients with direct threat to life. Here we don’t have time to hesitation and stereotypical thinking, only our knowledge, skill and trust to the team counts. I am fully convinced that all students of the Medical University of Gdańsk, no matter of what language they study in, are educated equally and I can safely say that we can trust to each other in all situations.

Nina Gostańska, Technical Director and Mariola Wabiszewska from the Chancellor’s Office of the MUG

- Kindness is selfless help to others. It costs nothing. “Kind words can be short and easy to pronounce, but their echoes are truly endless. – emphasise Nina Gostańska and Mariola Wabiszewska, quoting, i.e., Mother Teresa of Calcutta – The best medicine that cannot be overdosed is… kindness to other people.

- I’m studying nursery and on my 1st semester I was able to learn basic sign language – says Magdalena Lorek, 3rd year nursery student. – On 2nd year I joined a basic course individually and now I attend advanced level classes. In the video I explain why I think that deaf people are discriminated. In fact, only in few places a translator of PSL (Polish Sign Language) is present. How should deaf person communicate in such situation? Due to the limited access to education for deaf people many them don’t understand our written language. That’s why it’s possible that even written explanation won’t help deaf person in understanding us… Similarly, hardly anyone of us, hearing people, understands text written in Bulgarian, right? For a great part of society PSL is a foreign language, so is Polish for deaf people…

- I encourage learning sign language. – adds Magdalena Lorek. – It’s a pleasure and, what’s most important, it opens us for deaf people’s world. I’m sure that in future work as nurse I will have occasions to communicate with deaf person. “Equality” slogan should refer to every human being. Regardless of orientation, religion, social status, disability… Be sensitive to other person…

- We think no unit is connected with values like #kindness, #respect, #equality, #tolerance, #trust, and #understanding as firmly as the Department of Employee Development Support. We are the first ones who new employee comes into contact with, but we are also the first ones to help when any professional, social or other random issue occurs – say Agnieszka Lutnik, Dominika Enerlich-Górka, Artur Sordyl, Ewelina Gierszewska, Agnieszka Buraczek and unit’s Head Magdalena Eliasz as well as Dorota Wawrzyniecka, Head of the Office for Personnel.

- “If not me, then who? If not now, then when?”
- #Tolerance: essential for people of different cultures to not only coexist, but also work together and to deal with all of life’s challenges.
- #Trust: life without trust is a sad existence. It’s necessary to trust, both in yourself and in others, in order to achieve satisfaction.
- #Respect: is not given, it is earned. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Talk to others the way you want to be talked to.
- #Kindness: is what makes Homo sapiens, human. When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world. – explain medical – ED students: Shraddha Singh, Louisa Ammari, Jennie Ann Joseph and Przemysław Szewczyk.
